ELLIOTT ERWITT

Elliott Erwitt was born in Paris in 1928 from a family of Jewish origin. He spent his childhood between France, Italy and America, Paris, Los Angeles, New York, scenarios that often recur in his shots. He approaches photography at a very young age, and soon a Leica becomes his inseparable companion. Erwitt uses images to communicate with an ironic, simple, essential language. Member of the famous Magnum agency since 1953, although he is known above all for his humorous or touching images, capable of capturing spontaneous moments in the flow of experience, Erwitt is also a highly effective journalist. Since the 1970s, Erwitt has also dedicated himself to cinema, making some films including Beauty knows no pain (1971; Red white and blue grass (1973); The Glassmakers of Hearts (1979). Erwitt is the author of over 30 photographic books; also exhibited in many personal exhibitions, in prestigious museums such as MOMA, New York; International Center of Photography (ICP) New York; Scavi Scaligeri, Verona; Chicago Art Institute; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Reina Sofia, Madrid; Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris; Barbican Center, London; Smithsonian Institute, Washington; Palazzo Braschi, Rome; Fondazione Forma per la Fotografia, Milan. His works are part of important public and private collections. 

Since the 1950s Elliott Erwitt lives and works n New York. Elliott loves children and dogs.
